If you did not catch any of yesterday's Day One action in the Democratic National Convention, here's some of the highlights.... and update for tonight's Day Two.
Michelle Obama's speech hit all the right buttons. We now know much more about her than we ever have. She truly is living the American dream. Her stories about growing up were very uplifting. And we gained valuable insight into her roles as a mother and as a wife. The unscripted moments right after her speech with her two extremely cute daughters was very funny and very revealing. Her speech actually made me proud to be an American. I never thought we would see in my lifetime an african-american OR a female as as likely presidential winner. After hearing her speech, one comes away very confident and reassured in her potential strengths and abilities as first lady.
As good as she was on Monday, it was TEDDY KENNEDY who brought the house down. Considering what he has gone through in the last 6 months (Brain Tumor and chemo treatments), the fact that he was even able to travel to Denver shows that he is the MAN when it comes to democratic politics. The 5-minute standing ovation for him left no dry eyes in the entire arena... or for those of us who watched him on the tube. He threw a fantastic zinger at our current administration for how they have dropped the ball in regards to Iraq. if you believe that all Americans deserve universal health care as a RIGHT... not a privilege, then Teddy Kennedy has been on your side throughout his long and storied career. You do realize that he has had a more positive impact on all American lives as a US Senator than he EVER could as a US President. I know that we have installed 'Immortal' status on his two brothers (JFK and RFK) based on their tragic deaths. But TEDDY KENNEDY has has a much more positive impact on all of our likes than Jack and Bobby put together. Teddy, you are THE MAN... and your support for Barack Obama is appreciated.
On the Tuesday schedule:
The democrats are bringing out one of their "Big Guns" in BILL CLINTON, who is the featured speaker. Tonight's speech should be very, very interesting, And on Wednesday night, it will be high-profile, revealing speeches from HILLARY CLINTON and JOE BIDEN.
If you can tear yourself from your normal weekday TV-watching routine of CSI and LAW + ORDER reruns, you might just learn something if you tune in to the Democratic Convention. Political junkies like myself will be watching the whole shindig beginning at 7:00pm ET on MSNBC TV. If you can't bring yourself to watching the entire 5+ hours of coverage, you can at the very LEAST tune in to the national coverage on the major networks (ABC / NBC / CBS) at 10:00pm ET..... or you can bury your head in the sand.
It's only the most important election of our lifetime!
